At Hyde Park Dentistry of London, Ontario, Canada, our dentists are pleased to use Botox for purposes like bruxism or TMJ/TMD concerns.
At Hyde Park Dentistry, Botox is used for therapeutic purposes, though it is more commonly known for aesthetic use. Botox is used therapeutically to treat issues such as bruxism, TMJ/TMD, and chronic jaw pain. When injected directly into the masseter muscle of the face, Botox relaxes tight muscles that cause clenching and grinding of teeth, reducing tension and pain in the jaw.
Our experienced team, including Drs. Ashish Papneja and Marjan Moaveni, administer these injections using tiny needles to target specific facial muscles.
Botox is a medication formulated with botulinum toxin, a protein that blocks nerve signals to muscles. When injected in specific areas around the mouth, Botox temporarily paralyzes the targeted muscles, preventing them from contracting and causing wrinkles or tension in the jaw. As with any medical procedure performed by doctors, some potential risks and concerns may develop with Botox use, but many of these can be avoided when the treatment is administered by trained professionals. Botox has been FDA-approved for therapeutic purposes.
Drs. Ashish Papneja and Marjan Moaveni of Hyde Park Dentistry are available to help patients in London, Ontario, with their oral health needs and address a wide range of conditions that may impact them during their lifetime. If you struggle with conditions causing pain and discomfort in the mouth and jaw area, we may recommend Botox injections.
