Convenient, stress-free dentistry with CEREC® in London, ON

Drs. Ashish Papneja and Marjan Moaveni and the team at Hyde Park Dentistry in London, ON, have invested in technologies and amenities that support a comfortable, inviting, and approachable experience at our family dental practice. CEREC® complements our vision. This system has transformed a standard dental treatment. Getting crowns and other dental restorations has never been easier and more convenient.

CEREC® Basics

CEREC® stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. While that sounds like a mouthful, this acronym does a great job of summing up what CEREC is all about. The system is based on Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) principles. With such technologies in-house at our office, we can complete a treatment that is typically “outsourced” to a dental lab in one visit – while you wait or “chairside.”

Since we have the capabilities onsite to complete crowns in a single appointment, this minimizes the time, stress, and expense associated with multiple trips to the dentist’s offices (so, it is an “economical” alternative to traditional crown-making processes). Additionally, the restorations are made from esthetic dental ceramics pleasing to the eye and are built for the long haul. You get the best of both worlds, a durable and quality crown and a hassle-free, efficient process.

What is CEREC®?

Hi, this is Dr. Marjan Moaveni from Hyde Park Dentistry in London, Ontario, and today I’m going to be talking about CEREC® crowns.

We know that time is of the essence, and to help minimize the time you spend at the office, we have introduced our CEREC® system.

It utilizes CAD/CAM technology and helps us make a beautiful restoration for you in one visit.

We can do away with temporary restorations and multiple visits in most cases.

What is the process of CEREC® crowns?

This is how it works; after the consultation that tells you a crown is needed for your tooth, a camera captures the area to be treated.

After the preparation of the tooth, the dental prosthesis or the crown is created with a 3D model on a computer.

Next, the created restoration on the computer is milled from a CEREC® block in a milling machine, and the finished ceramic restoration is inserted onto your tooth.

The process takes about two to two and a half hours, depending on where the tooth is and what we have to do to get everything going.

Feel free to call us and make an appointment to complete your smile with CEREC®.

What to expect: The CEREC® process

If we determine that CEREC® restorations are correct for you, images of your tooth will be comfortably taken using non-invasive imaging with either CEREC’s Omnicam or Bluecam technology. Advanced diagnostics help to support a precision-made crown that fits over your natural tooth perfectly. These images are then sent to a computer monitor, and, using CAD principles and specialized software, the team designs your new crown. This design is then sent to our onsite milling machine, which fabricates the crown from quality dental ceramics in a matter of moments. Once the tooth is ready, we will apply the crown and check that it fits well and blends seamlessly with the surrounding teeth.

Then, the new tooth structure is polished and secured to the natural tooth. Adjustments can be made in seconds, and there is no need to wear a temporary restoration. Feel free to relax at our comfortable, home-like office while you wait! But don’t get too comfortable because the crown will be completed before you know it. Patients also appreciate that there is no need to numb their mouths two or more times since all preparation (of the natural tooth and crown) is done in one visit. We can even use CEREC® for other types of “same day” dentistry procedures, such as veneers, inlays, and onlays (partial crowns).
