Do I Need Teeth Whitening Treatment?

Even with regular dental cleanings, your teeth can become discoloured from everyday food and beverages. Darker pigments can leave trace stains beneath the surface of your tooth enamel. Over time, these stains become more visible and cause discoloration. Your teeth can also be stained from excessive fluoridation, wearing of your enamel, or certain medications like tetracycline. For normal tooth discoloration, our professional-strength whitening services can restore your smile to its natural brilliance. Whether you prefer in-office whitening or whitening at home, we can provide the tools you need to brighten your smile.

Our Whitening Treatments

Our most popular whitening option is our in-office ZOOM! treatment. After this 1.5 to 2-hour therapy, you will leave our office with a whiter and brighter smile. Teeth whitening is not permanent, so you may need a touch-up every few months. Everyone who receives our in-office treatment can take home a touch-up kit at no additional cost.

We also offer Opalescence, a professional take-home whitening kit that allows you to whiten at your own pace in the comfort of your home. This kit includes custom trays for a proper fit. We will make impressions and choose your ideal shade at your initial consultation. You must return for a second appointment to try on the trays and receive care instructions. We recommend keeping up with regular cleanings to help maintain your new, beautifully white smile.

Teeth can become discoloured for other reasons, including grinding, acid reflux, or injury. If whitening cannot resolve discoloration, we offer other cosmetic treatments, including veneers and crowns.

Convenient CEREC® Same-Day Crowns

A ceramic crown can be used to protect a tooth that has been broken or cracked, has a large filling, or has undergone a root canal. It is placed over the tooth to strengthen and protect it from further decay or damage. Once a ceramic crown is attached, the tooth will look and function just like a regular tooth.

Our practice offers CEREC crowns that are custom-made in our office in as little as two hours. Made from strong, tooth-coloured ceramic material, our CEREC crowns ensure a comfortable, custom fit. Once your crown is ready, Drs. Papneja and Moaveni will make any final adjustments before bonding it in place.

Affordable Fixed Bridges

We can restore one or more missing teeth with a dental bridge secured in place by crowns bonded to the teeth on either side of the space. Artificial teeth, also called pontics, are made from porcelain or ceramic materials and attached to the appliance to fill the gap. A dental bridge can improve the appearance of your smile and give you confidence.

Beautiful Porcelain Veneers

If you are unhappy with your teeth, porcelain veneers could be the right cosmetic option for you. The front facings of your teeth will be bonded with these thin, tooth-shaped porcelain shells to conceal imperfections.

Veneers resolve cosmetic issues, including:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Unwanted gaps
  • Discoloured teeth
  • Worn teeth

Porcelain veneers can be placed on any front teeth on the top or lower jaw. These are the teeth that are most visible when you speak or smile. Drs. Papneja and Moaveni will securely bond them to your existing tooth or teeth. Because veneers are custom-made, they will perfectly fit and match your other teeth. We can place them on one tooth or several, according to your needs.

How to Take Care of Your Veneers

To keep your veneers in good condition, we recommend avoiding biting hard things like ice cubes, nuts, or hard candy with your front teeth. You should never use your teeth to rip, cut, or bite non-food items or your nails. Always use a soft toothbrush to avoid scratching your veneers, and if you grind your teeth, speak to Drs. Papneja and Moaveni about obtaining a mouthguard.

Veneers do not bear the same chewing pressure that molars do. With proper care, porcelain veneers can last for ten years or more. If a veneer fails, you must have it replaced to keep your smile healthy and uniform.

Dental Implants: An Optimal Solution for Missing Teeth

If you are missing teeth, you may want to consider a permanent solution to restore and cosmetically enhance your smile. Dental implants could be the answer to your unique dental situation. They are a great way to replace one or more missing teeth. Implants can support and stabilize crowns, dental bridges, or removable partial and complete dentures. Dental implants feel and look just like natural teeth and are an excellent option for restoring your smile. Because they are durable and stable, they will last many years with little maintenance when adequately cared for.

Should I Get Dental Implants?

By opting for dental implants, you can replace one or more teeth without damaging adjacent ones. You can chew and speak normally without fear of your dentures slipping and without discomfort from bite problems. Implants can also help maintain facial features that can be affected by jaw shrinkage and the shifting of teeth associated with missing teeth.

You can start replacing your missing teeth with dental implants by scheduling a consultation with Drs. Papneja and Moaveni. They will then refer you to an oral surgeon for the surgical placement of the titanium post, after which they will attach your new prosthetic.

The Importance of Periodontal Care

Happy family enjoying outdoors

Gum health is essential for maintaining a healthy, beautiful smile. Your gums, supporting tissues, and ligaments must be strong to keep your teeth secure. Periodontal care is required to address symptoms of gum disease. When you maintain good oral hygiene habits and regularly visit our office for exams and cleanings, we can treat gum disease in its earliest stages.

Gingivitis, the beginning phase of gum disease, can cause your gums to bleed, be red and puffy, and feel irritated. Often, the condition will improve with professional cleanings and consistent hygiene care at home. If it has moved on to a more advanced stage, a deep cleaning may be needed to restore your periodontal health entirely.

What is Scaling and Root Planing?

Scaling is an in-depth cleaning process where we will remove plaque, infection, or debris that has settled below your gum line, both on the root and in pockets surrounding your teeth. These areas are flushed with an antiseptic solution to promote healing and prevent further infection. Follow-up appointments will include measuring the pockets to ensure the gums are healing.

Root planing is a cleaning process where we smooth the surface of the roots of your teeth. This procedure can reduce the likelihood of future infection and allow the gums to reattach, providing vital support.
