Straighten your teeth discreetly with SureSmile® clear aligners in London, ON

Straight teeth and a properly aligned jaw do much more than give you an attractive smile – they are also great for your oral health! When your teeth are crooked, it is more difficult to clean between your teeth, and a misaligned bite properly can contribute to painful problems such as TMJ disorder. However, many adults are hesitant to undergo traditional orthodontic treatment with braces. That’s why Hyde Park Dentistry is proud to offer SureSmile® clear aligners to our London, ON area patients!

The SureSmile® difference

Also sometimes called “clear braces,” clear aligner therapy has been used by millions of adults and children worldwide because it is a highly effective way of straightening teeth without the discomfort and unsightly appearance of metal braces. SureSmile® is similar to Invisalign and other clear aligner options but differs in that it uses proprietary laboratory software, enabling our dentists to craft your treatment plan more precisely for optimal results. Additionally, SureSmile uses Essix ACE® plastic, which is an industry leader in dental plastics and offers superior comfort.

How SureSmile® clear aligner therapy works

SureSmile® uses a series of custom-fabricated aligners designed to shift your teeth and jaw into their ideal position gradually. You will wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day and switch them out for the next in the series at the interval specified in your treatment plan (typically every two weeks). SureSmile® therapy is loved by patients and dentists alike because it is:

  • Effective: because the aligners are fabricated based on advanced computer technology, SureSmile aligners create precise movements while requiring fewer adjustments than traditional braces
  • Versatile: SureSmile is a great option for a wide variety of misalignment issues ranging from gaps and crowding to bite problems such as an overbite or underbite
  • Convenient: fewer checkups are needed than for traditional braces, and you can continue to enjoy your favorite foods without restrictions because the aligners are completely removable
  • Comfortable: made from proprietary Essix ACE plastic, SureSmile aligners are designed for comfort and do not have any metal wires or brackets to poke your mouth

FAQs

Do teeth aligners really work?

Yes, clear teeth aligners can effectively straighten teeth for many people. They work by gradually shifting teeth into the desired position using custom-made, removable trays. Consistent wear, as a dentist or orthodontist instructs, is crucial for successful results, typically yielding noticeable improvements over time.

Are aligners better than braces?

Aligners, such as Invisalign, offer advantages like being removable, nearly invisible, and more comfortable than braces. They’re suitable for mild to moderate alignment issues. However, braces may be more effective for complex cases. Treatment choice depends on individual needs, preferences, and the recommendation of a dental professional.

How quickly do teeth move with aligners?

Teeth movement with aligners varies based on individual factors like severity of misalignment and treatment compliance. Generally, noticeable improvements can be seen within a few weeks. Complete treatment typically ranges from 6 to 18 months, but shorter or longer durations may occur depending on specific cases and treatment plans.

Do aligners hurt the whole time?

Aligners may cause discomfort initially and during adjustments, but it’s usually temporary. Users may experience soreness, pressure, or irritation during the first few days of each new tray. However, discomfort tends to decrease as the teeth adjust. Regular wear helps mitigate discomfort, making the overall experience manageable for most individuals.

How Many Hours A Day Do I Need To Wear My SureSmile Clear Aligners?

SureSmile clear aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day, as recommended by dental professionals like Drs. Ashish Papneja and Marjan Moaveni. Consistency in wearing the aligners is critical for a successful treatment. Failing to stick to the recommended wearing time will result in delayed progress or possible treatment failure. When aligners are not worn for the prescribed duration, your teeth may not move as intended, prolonging the treatment timeline and potentially leading to additional orthodontic issues. Inadequate wear time can lead to discomfort when transitioning to the next set of aligners, as your teeth may not be properly prepared for the adjustment.

Inconsistent wear can also lead to relapse, where teeth gradually shift back to their original positions. This not only compromises the cosmetic results but could also require additional orthodontic intervention to correct. Prolonged treatment duration increases the risk of oral health problems such as tooth decay and gum disease, as it becomes more challenging to maintain proper oral hygiene with aligners that are not consistently worn. This makes it essential to adhere to the recommended wear time to ensure optimal outcomes and minimize potential complications during SureSmile clear aligner treatment.

How Do I Know Which SureSmile Clear Aligner I Am Supposed To Be Wearing?

SureSmile clear aligners are provided in a series of trays, each designed to move your teeth towards the desired position incrementally. To know which aligner you should be wearing at any particular time, follow the instructions provided by our team. Generally, aligners are numbered sequentially, indicating the order in which they should be worn. Our team will provide a detailed treatment plan outlining when to switch to the next set of aligners.

To ensure you are wearing the correct aligner, pay attention to the numbering and any additional markings that may differentiate one aligner from another. Aligners may also be labeled with the duration of wear, indicating how long each set should be worn before progressing to the next.

Contact our team for clarification if you are unsure about which aligner to wear or encounter any discrepancies. It’s crucial to follow the prescribed treatment plan diligently to achieve optimal results and minimize any potential setbacks or delays in your SureSmile clear aligner treatment.

Are There Any Tips That Make Putting On And Taking Off My Aligners Easier?

Putting on and taking off your SureSmile clear aligners can be made easier with a few helpful tips:

Use an aligner removal tool: Many SureSmile providers provide a unique tool to help remove aligners. If not, consider purchasing one online or ask your dental professional for recommendations. These tools provide leverage and make detaching the aligners from your teeth easier.

Start from the back: When removing aligners, start from the back teeth and work your way forward. Gently lift the edges of the aligners around the molars and then gradually work towards the front teeth.

Use warm water: Soaking the aligners in warm water briefly can make them more pliable, making it easier to insert and remove them from your teeth.

Chewies: Chewies are small cylindrical cushions provided by some SureSmile providers. Biting down on chewies helps to seat the aligners more firmly on your teeth, making them easier to put on and ensuring a snug fit.

Practice good oral hygiene: Keeping your aligners clean and your teeth brushed and flossed before wearing them can reduce friction and make them easier to slide on and off.

How Long Does The SureSmile Clear Aligner Treatment Take To Complete?

SureSmile clear aligner treatment duration varies depending on individual factors such as the severity of misalignment, compliance with wearing the aligners, and the treatment plan prescribed by your dentist or orthodontist. On average, treatment with SureSmile aligners typically ranges from 6 to 18 months, though it can be shorter or longer based on specific circumstances.

Treatment may be completed in as little as six months for minor misalignments or cosmetic adjustments. More complex cases involving significant misalignment or bite issues may require 18 months or longer to achieve the desired results.

Regular follow-up appointments with your dental professional are essential to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan. They will provide a detailed timeline outlining when to switch to the next set of aligners and any milestones throughout the treatment process.

Adhering to the recommended wear time of 20 to 22 hours per day and diligently following provided instructions can help ensure the timely completion of your SureSmile clear aligner treatment. Maintaining good oral hygiene and attending scheduled appointments will also contribute to successful outcomes and a smoother treatment journey.

Will I Need To Wear A Retainer Once I Complete The SureSmile Treatment?

Yes, wearing a retainer after completing SureSmile clear aligner treatment is typically recommended to preserve the corrected alignment achieved from treatment. Retainers help prevent teeth from shifting back to their original positions, a process known as relapse. Your dental professional will recommend the type of retainer best suited for your needs, including removable or fixed retainers bonded to the back of your teeth.

Initially, you may need to wear your retainer full-time, gradually transitioning to nighttime wear only as directed by your dentist or orthodontist. Consistently wearing your retainer as prescribed is essential for long-term success and to prevent orthodontic relapse.

It’s essential to follow any provided instructions regarding retainer wear and attend regular follow-up appointments to monitor the stability of your results. Over time, your retainer regimen may be adjusted based on your individual needs and the stability of your teeth.

By wearing your retainer as recommended and maintaining good oral hygiene practices, you can help ensure that your smile remains straight and aligned, preserving the results achieved through SureSmile clear aligner treatment for years to come.

Is The SureSmile Clear Aligner Treatment Less Painful Than Traditional Metal Braces?

SureSmile clear aligner treatment is generally considered to be less painful than traditional metal braces for several reasons. First, SureSmile aligners are made of smooth, comfortable plastic that reduces irritation and discomfort compared to the metal brackets and wires of traditional braces, which can cause friction and soreness against the cheeks, lips, and gums.

SureSmile clear aligners are designed to gradually and gently shift teeth into their desired positions, minimizing discomfort associated with sudden adjustments or tightening of wires, as is common with traditional braces. Patients could experience pressure or discomfort when moving to the next set of aligners, but this typically subsides within a few days as the teeth adjust.

SureSmile aligners are removable, allowing for easier cleaning of teeth and gums and eliminating the need for dietary restrictions often imposed with traditional braces. This increased flexibility and convenience contribute to a more comfortable treatment experience overall.

However, it’s important to note that individual experiences with orthodontic treatment can vary, and some discomfort or soreness may still occur during SureSmile clear aligner treatment, particularly in the initial stages or after switching to a new set of aligners. Your dentist or orthodontist can guide you in managing discomfort and ensuring a smoother treatment process.

How Is SureSmile Different From Other Clear Aligner Treatments?

SureSmile clear aligners stand out from other clear aligner treatments due to several key differences. Firstly, SureSmile utilizes advanced digital technology, including 3D imaging and computer-aided design (CAD), to create highly precise and customized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique dental anatomy. This technology allows for more accurate tooth movement and better treatment outcomes.

Additionally, SureSmile clear aligners are made from a proprietary material that is durable, comfortable and virtually invisible when worn, offering a discreet orthodontic solution.

SureSmile’s treatment process involves regular monitoring and guidance from experienced dentists who oversee the entire treatment journey, ensuring optimal results and patient satisfaction.

Furthermore, SureSmile clear aligners offer greater flexibility and convenience, as they are removable, allowing patients to eat, drink, brush, and floss without the restrictions associated with traditional braces. This removable feature also enhances comfort and oral hygiene throughout the treatment process.

SureSmile clear aligners combine cutting-edge technology, personalized treatment planning, and patient-centered care to provide a superior orthodontic experience, distinguishing them from other clear aligner treatments on the market.
